Cubs Rally Past Pirates with Late Inning Comeback

The Cubs initially took the lead with two home runs off pitcher Paul Skenes, but a rare error by Nico Hoerner allowed the Pirates to come back and briefly take control of the game.

Michael Busch opened the scoring for the Cubs with a home run in the first inning, marking the 28th time a Cubs player has recorded the team's first hit of a game this season. Pedro Ramirez also contributed with a home run in the third inning, extending the Cubs' lead to 2-0.

However, the Pirates capitalized on a crucial error by Hoerner in the sixth inning, which allowed them to load the bases and ultimately take a 3-2 lead after Ryan O'Hearn hit a homer. Despite the setback, Cubs pitcher Jacob Webb managed to escape further damage by getting Oneil Cruz to ground out.

In the eighth inning, the Cubs mounted their comeback after Skenes was replaced by Gregory Soto. Ramirez led off with a double, and after a series of walks, the Cubs tied the game at 3-3. A hit by pitch against Hoerner then brought in the go-ahead run, giving the Cubs a 4-3 advantage.

The Cubs held on to their lead in the ninth, with Ryan Rolison on the mound. Despite allowing a hit to the first batter, Rolison retired the next two Pirates, sealing the win for Chicago.
