Celtics Eyeing Former Lottery Pick Devin Carter for Roster Spot

The Boston Celtics are reportedly showing interest in signing guard Devin Carter, who was recently waived by the Atlanta Hawks. Carter, a former lottery pick, spent the last two seasons with the Sacramento Kings, where he played 38 games last season, averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes per game.

In his sophomore season, Carter had notable performances, including a standout game against the Indiana Pacers where he scored 24 points, with 22 of those points coming in a pivotal fourth quarter. His shooting percentages were 41.4% from the field and 26.3% from beyond the arc.

Before entering the NBA, Carter played college basketball at the University of South Carolina and Providence. He was recognized as the BIG EAST Player of the Year in his senior season, averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.

Currently, the Celtics have 14 players signed to contracts, along with two on two-way deals. If Carter joins the team, he would become their 15th player, although this may require the team to waive or trade another player to make room.

The Celtics' guard lineup includes Derrick White and Payton Pritchard as primary options, with veteran Mike Conley providing depth off the bench. The team also has Baylor Scheierman and Ron Harper Jr., who can handle the ball but are not traditional point guards.

As the Celtics prepare to introduce new players like Paul George and Mike Conley on Tuesday, training camp is set to begin on September 28th. The decision to add Carter to the roster remains uncertain, but it is an intriguing possibility as the season approaches.
