Siniakova and Townsend Achieve Historic Doubles Grand Slam at US Open

Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend have made history by winning the women's doubles title at the US Open, marking their achievement of a career doubles Grand Slam as a team. The top-seeded duo overcame a challenging start, coming back from a set down to defeat American wildcards Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery with a score of 5-7, 6-0, 6-2.

This victory at Flushing Meadows adds to their previous Grand Slam titles, which include wins at Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025, and the French Open earlier this year. For Siniakova, this win signifies her 12th Grand Slam doubles title, making her the first player to complete a career Slam with two different partners, having previously achieved this feat with Barbora Krejcikova.

Despite not dropping a set leading up to the final, the pair faced a setback in the first set, where Siniakova struggled with three double faults in the final game. However, they regrouped in the second set, dominating by winning 23 of 27 points after the opening game, which set the stage for their decisive third set performance.

With this title, Townsend secured her first US Open doubles championship after finishing as a runner-up last year. Siniakova's impressive record places her among the elite, as she is one of only eight women in the Open era to have won at least 12 Grand Slam doubles titles.

If Siniakova concludes the season as the world number one in doubles, it will be her sixth time achieving this ranking, surpassing the legendary Martina Navratilova for the most year-end top finishes in WTA history.
