Rockets Celebrate First Responders While Preparing for New Season

The Houston Rockets continue their tradition of honoring first responders by hosting events that recognize the contributions of 911 Dispatchers, firefighters, police, and other emergency personnel in the community. This year marks the 25th anniversary of these initiatives, and the team plans to visit local police and fire stations to distribute T-shirts, collectibles, snacks, and complimentary tickets to an upcoming home game.

On Saturday, the Rockets will participate in the 9/11 Heroes Run organized by the Travis Manion Foundation. Recently, key members of the organization, including General Manager Rafael Stone and Head Coach Ime Udoka, visited the Houston Police Department's South Central Substation and Houston Fire Station 8 to show their support and appreciation for first responders.

During the visit, players and staff discussed the significance of the day and shared insights about the upcoming season. Stone highlighted the improvements made to the bench, mentioning the additions of veterans Bogdan Boganovich and Marcus Smart, which aim to alleviate pressure on the starting lineup that struggled with bench scoring last season.

Udoka expressed his excitement about the return of point guard Fred VanVleet, who missed the entire previous season due to injury. The Rockets hope VanVleet's presence will be crucial in enhancing the team's performance this year.

Rookie Reed Sheppard, along with teammates Jae'Sean Tate and Bruce Thornton, shared their thoughts on supporting first responders and their eagerness for the new season. The Rockets are gearing up for their media day and training camp in the coming weeks, with their first preseason game scheduled for October 9th against the Dallas Mavericks in China.
