Hewett and Reid Advance to US Open Wheelchair Doubles Final

British tennis players Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have secured their place in the final of the men's wheelchair doubles at the US Open. The duo came back from a set down to defeat Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez and Japan's Tokito Oda, winning the match tie-break with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

This victory marks a significant moment for Hewett and Reid, as they avenged their loss to the same opponents in last year's final. The pair is now aiming for their sixth US Open doubles title, having previously won five consecutive titles from 2017 to 2021.

In the final, Hewett and Reid will face Spain's Martin de la Puente and Ruben Spaargaren from the Netherlands. Earlier in the tournament, Reid faced a tough challenge in the singles quarter-finals, losing to top seed Oda with a score of 6-1, 6-0. However, Hewett, ranked second, advanced to the semi-finals after a commanding win over American Casey Ratzlaff, finishing 6-2, 6-0.

Hewett, 28, has already claimed four singles titles at the US Open, with his most recent victory occurring in 2023. Meanwhile, fellow British player Andy Lapthorne was eliminated in the quad doubles alongside his South African partner Leon Els, losing to second seeds Sam Schroder and Jin Woodman.
