DOJ Launches Criminal Investigation into Clippers and Kawhi Leonard

The Los Angeles Clippers are facing further scrutiny as the U.S. Department of Justice has reportedly opened a criminal investigation into the franchise. This inquiry is said to stem from allegations that the Clippers circumvented NBA salary cap regulations.

According to a report from the New York Times, the investigation follows findings from a separate NBA probe that revealed the team may have secretly facilitated sponsorship agreements for star player Kawhi Leonard. These arrangements allegedly provided Leonard with additional income beyond the terms of his three-year, $150 million contract signed in 2024.

The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Attorney's office in Brooklyn and is currently in its preliminary stages. It remains uncertain whether this inquiry will lead to any criminal charges against the Clippers or individuals involved.
