Jackson Merrill set the tone early with a two-run double off Giants pitcher Logan Webb, giving the Padres a lead they would not relinquish. The offense surged further in the second inning when Manny Machado launched his 27th home run of the season, extending the Padres' advantage to 5-0.

The Giants responded in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer from Andrew Knizner, narrowing the gap to 5-2. Despite this, the Padres maintained control, with Fernando Tatis Jr. contributing significantly by going 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in two runs, including a single that brought in rookie Ethan Salas.

Webb struggled on the mound, giving up six runs on eight hits over five innings, while striking out seven. The Giants managed to score two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but it was not enough to overcome the Padres' lead.
