River Ryan Shines in Mud Hens Win Despite Injury Comeback

River Ryan made his much-anticipated return to the mound for the Toledo Mud Hens, demonstrating impressive form in a recent victory. After dealing with a right hamstring injury that he aggravated while attempting to return with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ryan's outing was limited to two innings. However, he showcased his electric pitching, allowing just two soft hits, striking out two batters, and not issuing any walks. His fastball reached a peak of 98.2 mph, averaging 97.1 mph throughout the game, while effectively mixing in all six of his pitches.

The Mud Hens took an early lead in the second inning when Corey Julks walked but was caught stealing. Seby Zavala then singled, followed by a strikeout from James Outman. Justice Bigbie then added to the momentum with a single, leading to veteran catcher Carlos Pérez hitting a three-run homer, putting the Mud Hens up 3-0. In the fourth inning, Outman walked again, and Pérez responded with an RBI double, extending the lead to 4-0.

Carl Edwards Jr. replaced Ryan in the third inning and continued the strong performance, striking out the side in the fifth. The Mud Hens scored again in the sixth when Outman doubled and Bigbie's single advanced him to third, followed by a double play that allowed a run to score, making it 5-0. Although Edwards allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth, he managed to pitch into the seventh before Ty Madden closed out the inning.

In the eighth inning, Outman contributed further by driving in Julks and scoring on another Bigbie single, bringing the final score to 7-2. Meanwhile, the Erie SeaWolves faced a tough loss against the Reading Fightin Phils, with their bullpen struggling significantly throughout the game. The SeaWolves will look to rebound in their next matchup, scheduled for Thursday evening.
