The Warriors were reportedly interested in Simmons, along with the New York Knicks. However, they ultimately opted to sign Brandon Williams and Georges Niang instead. This decision may suggest that the Warriors were either unimpressed with Simmons or that he preferred the opportunity to revitalize his career in Sacramento.

Simmons, who was the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, has faced significant challenges throughout his career, including injuries and a holdout. After being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2022, he played 90 games over three seasons before receiving a buyout and signing with the Los Angeles Clippers. Last year, he took a break from basketball to focus on fishing, but he has since returned to the gym and is looking to make a comeback.

While Simmons has struggled with shooting, particularly at the free-throw line, he remains a formidable defensive player at 6-foot-10. The Kings are looking for a veteran presence to mentor their young roster, particularly Darius Acuff, Jr., their recent draft pick, although Simmons' shooting issues may limit his advisory role.
