Top Seeds Fall as Fritz and Cobolli Exit Early at US Open

The US Open has witnessed a shocking turn of events as six top-10 seeds were eliminated in the men's singles draw during the first week of competition. Fritz, who reached the finals at Flushing Meadows in 2024, was in control against Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo, leading by two sets and an early break in the third. After winning the first set in a tiebreak, Cobolli struggled to maintain his momentum, particularly in the third set, which he lost without winning a game. He acknowledged Blockx's performance and expressed support for him in the next round.

The early exits of Fritz and Cobolli have opened up the draw significantly, with Novak Djokovic, the fourth seed, also falling in the first round to Mariano Navone. Other notable upsets included the elimination of 10th seed Arthur Fils and third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, further clearing the path for remaining competitors.
