Aaron Judge Returns to Batting Practice, Eyes Comeback for Yankees
9 days agoNew York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has resumed on-field batting practice for the first time since May 31, marking a significant step in his recovery from a stress fracture in his right rib. The reigning American League MVP has been participating in indoor batting sessions with high-velocity pitching machines since being cleared to resume baseball activities.
In addition to batting practice, Judge has been actively running the bases and working in the outfield at Petco Park ahead of the Yankees' game against the San Diego Padres. Manager Aaron Boone expressed optimism that Judge will engage in comprehensive baseball activities in the coming week, potentially leading to his activation during the Yankees' upcoming six-game homestand starting September 8.
While Boone noted the possibility of Judge returning to the lineup soon, he emphasized the need for Judge to face live pitching before making a comeback. However, Judge has expressed a preference to skip minor-league rehab assignments, stating, "I don’t see a point. Why waste at-bats?"
Before his injury, Judge had a batting line of .248/.375/.533 with 17 home runs and 38 RBIs over 59 games. The Yankees' offense has struggled in his absence, scoring 332 runs since his injury, compared to 305 runs while he was active, resulting in a drop from fourth to 18th in MLB for total runs scored. Their current team batting average is .234, ranking among the lowest in the American League.
