Ben Simmons Signs One-Year Deal with Sacramento Kings

Ben Simmons has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million with the Sacramento Kings. The 30-year-old guard, who did not participate in the NBA last season, is expected to serve as a backup point guard to rookie Darius Acuff Jr.

Simmons last took the court during the 2024-25 season with the Los Angeles Clippers. After his contract expired, he opted not to sign with any team during free agency, even declining a minimum contract offer from the New York Knicks.

The Australian player enjoyed a successful start to his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he was named Rookie of the Year and consistently averaged over ten points per game. However, his time with the Brooklyn Nets was marred by injuries, leading to surgery for a herniated disc and ultimately being waived in February 2025.

In the time away from the NBA, Simmons participated in a player-led minicamp for the Australian national team, aiming for a spot in the 2028 Olympics. He also engaged in workouts with Kings' management, which led to his signing with the team.

Beyond basketball, Simmons has made headlines for purchasing a controlling stake in the South Florida Sails Angling Club, a professional sports fishing team that recently won a championship. As a former No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Simmons is a three-time All-Star and has averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists over his career.
