Knicks Eye Frontcourt Options as Training Camp Approaches
11 days agoWith training camp on the horizon, the New York Knicks are looking to bolster their frontcourt depth. According to SNY's NBA Insider Ian Begley, at least some members of the Knicks front office are monitoring potential additions to the roster.
Among the players being considered are guard-forward John Konchar and forward-center Drew Eubanks. Konchar, who was recently waived after a trade to Minnesota, is recognized for his rebounding and defensive skills, as well as his ability to shoot from the perimeter. Eubanks, a 6-foot-10 veteran, is recovering from a thumb injury that cut his last season short and could compete for the third center position on the Knicks' roster.
The defending NBA champions have some financial flexibility, allowing them to sign another player to a veteran minimum contract. However, they are constrained by the second apron rule, which limits their ability to add multiple players without exceeding a salary cap of $221 million, as noted by owner James Dolan.
Additionally, the Knicks are managing the recovery of guard Jalen Brunson, who is expected to resume basketball activities soon. The team plans to limit the minutes of key players during the preseason, providing younger players like Mohamed Diawara and Tyler Kolek with more opportunities to showcase their skills.
As the Knicks prepare for the upcoming season, the focus remains on strengthening their roster while navigating salary cap restrictions and player recoveries.
