French tennis player Gael Monfils celebrated his milestone 40th birthday in style by securing a victory at the US Open, marking a significant achievement in his career. He defeated Paraguayan player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, making him the oldest man to win a match at the US Open since Jimmy Connors in 1992.

This match was particularly special for Monfils as it was his 18th and final appearance at the US Open. After a shaky start, he quickly found his rhythm and dominated the remaining sets, extending his record for the most Grand Slam match wins by a Frenchman to 131.
