Former Warriors Employees File Discrimination Lawsuit Against Team

Lisa Shelley, also known as Lisa Meyer, and Jennifer Vasquez have initiated legal action against the Golden State Warriors, claiming discrimination, hostility, and retaliation. The lawsuit was filed in the San Francisco County Superior Court on August 25, citing violations of the Fair Employment and Housing Act.

Shelley, who joined the Warriors in 2021 as Associate General Counsel, and Vasquez, who became the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in January 2022, allege that their complaints regarding workplace practices were met with negative repercussions. They claim that a recent anonymous employee survey revealed significant dissatisfaction within the organization, particularly in the Legal and People Operations departments.

The Warriors have publicly refuted the allegations, stating that they are false and lack credible evidence. The team emphasized its commitment to an inclusive workplace and indicated that previous investigations into similar complaints found no merit in the claims.

In their lawsuit, Shelley claims she was denied appropriate compensation for additional responsibilities and was overlooked for promotions in favor of less experienced male candidates. She also raised concerns about the promotion process, which allegedly involved subjective criteria related to appearance and likability.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that female employees faced scrutiny regarding their appearance, with one manager reportedly making inappropriate comments about a female employee's attire. Shelley also noted disparities in pay between her and less experienced male colleagues, raising concerns about the organization's treatment of employees in protected classes.
