Reds Activate Brandon Williamson and Recall Juan Brito as September Roster Expands

As September begins, Major League Baseball allows teams to increase their active rosters from 26 to 28 players, and the Cincinnati Reds have made notable moves in response. The team has officially activated left-handed pitcher Brandon Williamson from the 60-day injured list and recalled infielder Juan Brito from Triple-A Louisville.

Williamson, who has been sidelined by elbow and shoulder injuries, is set to make his return to the mound. He is expected to start on Wednesday against the San Diego Padres, working alongside Chase Burns as the Reds manage the latter's innings for the remainder of the season.

Brito, acquired from the Cleveland Guardians at the trade deadline, adds versatility to the Reds' infield. He previously showed promise in the Guardians' system, hitting 21 home runs with an .807 OPS at Double-A Columbus. However, his performance in the majors has been less impressive, as he has struggled with a .232 batting average in 90 plate appearances since joining the Reds.

The decision to recall Brito comes as the Reds face challenges in their infield depth. With Ke'Bryan Hayes on the injured list and Elly De La Cruz limited to designated hitter duties due to a quad strain, Brito's ability to play multiple infield positions will be crucial for the team moving forward.
