Arthur Fery's US Open Journey Cut Short by Lorenzo Musetti

Arthur Fery's hopes of mirroring his impressive Wimbledon performance were dashed in the first round of the US Open, where he faced off against Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti. The 24-year-old Brit, who made headlines with his semi-final run at Wimbledon this summer, was unable to find his rhythm in New York, succumbing to Musetti in straight sets: 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.

Fery, who recently climbed into the top 40 of the ATP rankings after his Wimbledon success, missed out on a seeded position at the US Open. His first-round match was delayed due to rain and ultimately played in challenging hot and humid conditions. Despite the setback, Fery entered the match with confidence, having reached his first ATP Tour final at the Winston-Salem Open just prior to the tournament.

Musetti, a quarter-finalist at the previous year's US Open, showcased his skillful game, particularly his one-handed backhand, which proved to be a decisive factor. Fery started strong, displaying inventive play and effective net strategies, but a series of double faults allowed Musetti to seize control early on. Although Fery managed to break Musetti's serve in the third set, he could not sustain the momentum, leading to his exit from the tournament.
