Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs in Singles Return at US Open

Carlos Alcaraz marked his return to singles tennis with a victory over Roman Safiullin in the first round of the US Open, ending a 139-day absence from the court due to a wrist injury. The seven-time major champion showcased his skills at Arthur Ashe Stadium, winning the match with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

After missing significant tournaments, including the French Open and Wimbledon, Alcaraz expressed his joy at being back in competition. "I missed the crowd, the energy, the competition – I missed everything," he said during his on-court interview, reflecting on his time away from the sport.

Despite wearing a compression sleeve on his right arm, Alcaraz demonstrated his powerful forehand, which contributed to 28 winners throughout the match. His energy was palpable, as he celebrated each point with enthusiasm, encouraging the crowd to join in the excitement.

While his performance was largely impressive, Alcaraz acknowledged that there are areas for improvement, particularly with his serve, which yielded only two aces against five double faults. Nevertheless, he managed to win 66% of points on his first serve, indicating a solid foundation as he continues his comeback.
