Arthur Fery Advances to First ATP Final After Duckworth Retires

Arthur Fery has made history by reaching his first ATP Tour final at the Winston-Salem Open, following the retirement of his opponent James Duckworth due to injury. Fery was leading the semi-final match with a score of 6-4, 2-1 when Duckworth, who had already called for a medical timeout after the first set, decided to forfeit the match.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for the 24-year-old Briton, who is now the first player from the UK to reach the final of this ATP 250 event. Fery's journey to the final comes on the heels of his impressive run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon just two months ago, which has propelled him to a career-high ranking of 33rd in the world, surpassing fellow Brit Cameron Norrie to become the nation's top player.

In the final, Fery will face Ignacio Buse, who advanced after defeating Benjamin Bonzi in a closely contested match. Buse, currently ranked 36th, is seeking to secure his second title of the season after previously winning in Hamburg.

Fery's remarkable ascent in the rankings is noteworthy, especially considering he was outside the top 100 just eight weeks ago. As he prepares for the final, Fery is also looking ahead to the upcoming US Open, where he has been drawn against Italian 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti in the opening round.
