O'Sullivan Reflects on Career After Semi-Final Loss at Wuhan Open

Ronnie O'Sullivan has voiced his determination to keep competing in snooker, despite suffering a 6-3 defeat to Chang Bingyu in the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open. The seven-time world champion emphasized that he does not intend to retire just yet, stating, "I don't want to throw in the towel just yet."

O'Sullivan, who has not claimed a ranking event title since January 2024, acknowledged his ongoing struggles with mental health, revealing that he has been prioritizing his well-being by withdrawing from tournaments when necessary. He candidly remarked, "The disease came back big time today," referring to his battles with depression and anxiety.

In the match against Chang, O'Sullivan initially fell behind but managed to equalize at 2-2 before the mid-session break. However, Chang regained control after the break, ultimately securing his first victory over O'Sullivan. The 24-year-old expressed his admiration for O'Sullivan, stating, "Every time I play against Ronnie, it's a pleasure."

Looking ahead, O'Sullivan plans to continue competing for the next 18 months, hoping to improve his performances. He remarked, "I’d hate to finish my career on performances like that," reflecting his desire to leave the sport on a high note. Chang will now advance to the final, where he will face either Xiao Guodong or Zhao Xintong.
