Artist Addresses Criticism of Ronnie O'Sullivan Mural as Unfinished Work

Chris Ashmore, a street artist from Sheffield, has responded to criticism regarding his mural of snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, asserting that the artwork is still unfinished. Commissioned to create the mural on the back wall of the Spot On Snooker Club, Ashmore indicated that he has only completed two weeks of a five-week project and plans to make further adjustments.

While some local residents expressed admiration for the mural, others were less impressed, describing it with terms like "zombie-like" and "shocking." Ashmore noted that the viral attention the mural received took him by surprise, especially since he had been working from scaffolding that limited his view and perspective on the piece.

Local feedback varied, with some community members appreciating the mural for brightening the area, while others pointed out specific flaws, particularly around O'Sullivan's eyes and mouth. Dan Kirkland, the manager of the snooker club, also defended Ashmore, stating that minor tweaks could significantly improve the artwork and criticized personal attacks against the artist.

Ashmore, who has completed numerous murals in the past, emphasized his commitment to quality, stating that he would not rush the finishing touches simply due to social media feedback. He intends to complete the mural properly when conditions allow, ensuring that it meets his standards.
