Klay Thompson Signs Two-Year Deal with Miami Heat After Waiving Contract

Klay Thompson has officially joined the Miami Heat, signing a two-year contract worth $11.5 million after clearing waivers from his buyout with the Dallas Mavericks. The Heat confirmed the signing, marking a significant move for both Thompson and the franchise as they look to enhance their championship prospects.

Thompson's buyout with Dallas saw him forfeit $9.5 million, but he has now secured a deal in Miami that not only recoups that amount but also positions him with a team aiming for the title. The veteran guard is expected to take on a starting role, providing much-needed shooting alongside stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

Last season, Thompson averaged a career-low of 11.7 points per game, but he maintained a solid shooting percentage of 38.3% from beyond the arc. He will likely share minutes with Pelle Larsson, although Larsson's defensive skills may see him closing out games.

With Thompson's addition, the Heat have two open roster spots and are approximately $4.7 million under the hard cap established by the Antetokounmpo trade. The team is anticipated to fill one of those spots with a minimum player, while free agent center Nick Richards has been training in Miami and could be a candidate for the other spot.

This offseason has seen Miami undergo a significant roster overhaul, adding not only Thompson but also Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bobby Portis, further bolstering their lineup for the upcoming season.
