
Heather Watson Advances in US Open Qualifying Round

The 34-year-old Watson initially faced a challenge, but managed to maintain her composure and even fought off a double-break lead in the final set. She will next compete against Spain's Angela Fita Boluda in her quest to reach the main draw.
In men's qualifying, several British players also progressed. Toby Samuel achieved a comeback victory over Italy's Francesco Maestrelli, winning 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-1. He will face compatriot Billy Harris, who advanced with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Gonzalo Bueno from Peru.
Jacob Fearnley and Harry Wendelken also secured their spots in the next round, with Fearnley defeating Roberto Carballes Baena and Wendelken overcoming Stefano Travaglia. However, Liam Broady and Felix Gill were eliminated from the competition after losing their matches.
To qualify for the singles main draw, players must navigate through three rounds of qualifying, which leads up to the tournament's commencement on Sunday.
