Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz to Compete in US Open Mixed Doubles

Serena Williams is set to partner with Carlos Alcaraz in the mixed doubles competition at the upcoming US Open. This event will take place at Flushing Meadows, and the duo has been granted a wildcard entry into the main draw.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, made her return to tennis earlier this year after a four-year hiatus. Although she has participated in three doubles matches since her comeback and made her singles return at Wimbledon, she will not compete in singles at the US Open, as the final wildcard was awarded to Sofia Kenin.

Alcaraz, a seven-time major winner, is also making a return to the court after being sidelined for over four months due to a wrist injury. The pairing of Williams and Alcaraz boasts an impressive total of 44 Grand Slam titles between them, making them a formidable team in the mixed doubles event.

The mixed doubles format at the US Open was revamped last year to include more prominent singles players, a move that sparked debate among doubles specialists. This year, the tournament will feature 14 pairings, with the top six based on combined singles rankings receiving direct entry, while others, including Williams and Alcaraz, will enter via wildcards.

The mixed doubles competition is scheduled to take place from August 24 to 26, just days before the singles draw begins. Other notable pairings include world number one Aryna Sabalenka teaming up with Novak Djokovic and Jessica Pegula with Taylor Fritz.
