Former Kings Trainer Files Lawsuit Over Pregnancy Discrimination Claims

Crystal Lee, who served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Sacramento Kings from 2022 to 2025, has initiated legal action against the organization, claiming pregnancy discrimination. The lawsuit was filed on August 11 in the Superior Court of California, Sacramento County, where Lee alleges she faced unfair treatment and was demoted twice after becoming pregnant and giving birth.

According to Lee's attorney, Robert King, they plan to substantiate the claims made in the lawsuit. King emphasized that Lee broke significant barriers in the NBA as the first athletic trainer to give birth while employed, and he criticized the Kings for their alleged response to her situation, stating that the organization should be held accountable for its actions.

In response, the Sacramento Kings have categorically denied the allegations, asserting that they are committed to maintaining a respectful workplace. Kings attorney Alexis Gabrielson described Lee's claims as those of a disgruntled former employee and stated that the team intends to vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit.

The NBA has not yet provided any comments regarding the ongoing legal proceedings. As the case unfolds, it raises important questions about workplace equality and the treatment of women in professional sports.
