Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ketel Marte has sparked controversy after being spotted at a casino while on the 10-day injured list due to left knee inflammation. Social media posts showed Marte gambling at the Talking Stick Resort casino, located near the team's training complex in Salt River Fields, during a game on Friday.

Marte's absence from a game earlier in the week against the Boston Red Sox led to his placement on the restricted list, raising questions among team management and players about his lack of communication. Manager Torey Lovullo stated that injured players are not obligated to be present with the team during games, but expressed disappointment over Marte's actions, especially given the team's playoff aspirations.

Lovullo initially defended Marte, emphasizing that he had been at the complex for rehabilitation work earlier that day. However, he later admitted feeling "betrayed" by Marte's decision to be at a casino while the team was competing. Pitcher Kevin Ginkel echoed this sentiment, noting the disappointment among teammates and the need for Marte's presence as they vie for a playoff spot.

As of now, the Diamondbacks hold a record of 68-61, trailing the San Diego Padres by just one game for the National League's final wild-card playoff position.
