DeMar DeRozan to Join Denver Nuggets on One-Year Deal

DeMar DeRozan, a prominent figure in basketball and former star at USC, is reportedly signing a one-year contract with the Denver Nuggets worth $3.9 million. NBA insider Chris Haynes confirmed the news, noting that DeRozan is eager to join a contending team and has already engaged in discussions with key players like Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon.

Before this move, DeRozan played for the Sacramento Kings, where he averaged 20.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists over the last two seasons. His recent release from the Kings has opened the door for this new opportunity with the Nuggets.

DeRozan's basketball journey began at Compton High School, where he gained significant attention before moving on to USC. During his single season with the Trojans, he led the team to the Pac-10 tournament finals and the second round of the NCAA tournament, earning MVP honors during the conference tournament with a standout performance against Arizona State.

After being selected as the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors, DeRozan spent the first nine years of his career with the team before being traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 2018. His legacy includes having his jersey numbers retired by both USC and Compton High School, reflecting his impact on basketball at both institutions.

In addition to his professional career, DeRozan remains actively involved in supporting his former schools, contributing to the revitalization of the Compton basketball program following a significant renovation of the school facilities.
