DeMar DeRozan Joins Denver Nuggets to Boost Wing Depth

DeMar DeRozan is reportedly signing with the Denver Nuggets as a free agent, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, but due to the Nuggets being over the second apron, they can only offer the veteran minimum of $3.9 million.

Before finalizing his decision, DeRozan was in discussions with the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards, although the latter was considered a long shot. He had conversations with key Nuggets players Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon, and Jamal Murray about joining the team.

At 37 years old, DeRozan is expected to add valuable scoring depth to the Nuggets' roster, especially after the team lost Peyton Watson in a sign-and-trade to Cleveland and Tim Hardaway Jr. during the offseason. Throughout his 17-year career, DeRozan has been known for his durability, having never played fewer than 60 games in a season, a trait that will be beneficial for Denver.

Last season, DeRozan averaged 18.4 points and 4.1 assists per game with the Sacramento Kings, but was waived by the team this offseason to free up salary cap space. His addition will bring the Nuggets to 14 guaranteed contracts as they prepare for training camp, although they may look to reduce their salary by about $4 million to comply with salary cap regulations before next June.
