Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik Secure Semifinal Spot at BWF World Championships

In New Delhi, India, Malaysian badminton pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have clinched a place in the semifinals of the BWF World Championships, securing at least a bronze medal. They achieved this feat with a decisive straight-game victory over China's Hu Ke Yuan and Lin Xiang Yi, winning 21-11, 21-17 in the quarterfinals.

This marks the third World Championships medal for Aaron and Soh, who previously won gold in 2022 and bronze in 2023. They will now face the defending champions, South Korea's Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, for a chance to compete in the final.

The Malaysian pair entered the quarterfinals well-rested, having received a walkover in the previous round due to the withdrawal of their teammates Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, who was unable to compete due to illness. This extra rest seemed to benefit Aaron and Soh as they quickly took control of the match against their Chinese opponents.

In the first game, the Malaysians utilized their experience and strategic play to dominate. Although Hu and Lin put up more resistance in the second game, Aaron and Soh maintained their lead and composure, ultimately sealing the match with a 21-17 win.

Having participated in six editions of the World Championships, Aaron noted that reaching the semifinals has become a familiar experience, while Soh mentioned that the recent separation from each other during training may have alleviated some pressure, allowing them to approach the tournament with a more relaxed mindset.

As they prepare for their semifinal clash, Aaron and Soh are aware of the challenge ahead, facing a pair with a 3-1 advantage in their head-to-head record. However, with another medal already guaranteed, they are focused on reclaiming the world title they first won in 2022.
