Carlos Alcaraz Set to Return at US Open After Injury Layoff

Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion of the US Open, is poised to make his comeback at the tournament following a four-month hiatus caused by a wrist injury. The 23-year-old Spaniard has not participated in any competitive matches since April 14, when he sustained the injury during the Barcelona Open.

Alcaraz, who achieved a remarkable feat earlier this year by winning the Australian Open and becoming the youngest player to secure all four Grand Slam titles, confirmed his return via a joint Instagram post with football influencer Fabrizio Romano. In the post, he expressed excitement with the phrase "here we go!" accompanied by an American flag emoji.

In addition to competing in singles, Alcaraz may also enter the mixed doubles event scheduled for the week preceding the US Open. He participated in this revamped competition last year alongside Emma Raducanu, who will not compete this year due to her own injury.

Having missed the Cincinnati Open, Alcaraz has seen his world ranking drop, with Alexander Zverev now occupying the second spot. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner leads the rankings after his recent Wimbledon victory, although he too has faced injury setbacks, withdrawing from Cincinnati due to a knee issue.

The singles event of the US Open is set to commence on August 30 in New York, marking a significant return for Alcaraz as he looks to defend his title after an extended period away from the court.
