Brewers Match Shutout Record with 22-0 Victory Over Mariners

The Milwaukee Brewers delivered a remarkable performance, matching the modern-era record for the largest shutout in Major League Baseball history with a resounding 22-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The game featured a notable power surge, highlighted by three-run home runs from Christian Yelich, David Hamilton, and Luis Lara, along with a two-run shot from Jake Bauers.

Despite having the fewest home runs in baseball this season, the Brewers showcased their offensive capabilities. Seattle manager Dan Wilson acknowledged the Brewers' diverse skill set, noting their ability to pressure defenses with bunts and steals while also posing a significant home run threat.

The Brewers' offensive onslaught was particularly evident in the fifth inning, where they executed a double steal during a five-run rally that helped extend their lead. This victory also matched a franchise record for runs scored in a game, equaling the 22 runs they posted against the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992, and marked a season-high with 22 hits.

Yelich's three-run homer was his ninth of the season, and Bauers contributed his team-leading 22nd home run. The Brewers also capitalized on a pitching appearance by Mariners infielder Leo Rivas, scoring nine runs in the eighth inning, including Lara's first career homer, which he humorously noted counted despite being hit off a position player.

In a unique twist, veteran catcher Gary Sanchez took to the mound for the Brewers in the ninth inning, pitching a scoreless inning to the delight of the crowd. This marked Sanchez's third career pitching appearance, and he received enthusiastic support from the fans, although his teammates still preferred him behind the plate.
