Venus Williams Receives US Open Wildcard; Serena's Participation Uncertain

Venus Williams has been granted a wildcard for the upcoming US Open singles tournament, marking her return to the event at the age of 46, nearly three decades after her debut in New York in 1997. She previously reached the final in her first appearance and has won two of her seven Grand Slam singles titles at this prestigious event in 2000 and 2001.

Alongside Venus, Sloane Stephens, the 2017 champion, has also received direct entry into the main draw, which is set to commence on August 30. Meanwhile, there remains a possibility that Serena Williams could join her sister, as one wildcard spot is still available. Serena made her return to tennis in June after a four-year hiatus and competed in singles at Wimbledon.

Despite her storied career, Venus has faced challenges on the WTA Tour recently, having lost all ten of her matches this season and not winning a singles match at a Grand Slam since 2021.
