Iga Swiatek Claims First Title of the Season at Canadian Open

Iga Swiatek has captured her first WTA title of the season, triumphing over Elena Rybakina in a straight-set final at the Canadian Open. The match took place in Toronto, where Swiatek, the world number eight, defeated the second-ranked Rybakina with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

The Polish player showcased her skills effectively, breaking Rybakina's serve twice in the first set, while the Australian Open champion struggled with 12 unforced errors. In the second set, Rybakina was unable to secure a break against Swiatek, who closed the match in just one hour and 15 minutes, marking her 26th career title.

Swiatek expressed her joy at the victory, acknowledging the challenges she faced in previous months. This win will propel her back into the top five of the WTA rankings. Despite a rocky start to the season, where she exited early in the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon, Swiatek has been working on her game with new coach Francisco Roig, who has previously worked with tennis stars like Rafael Nadal.

Rybakina, who had previously won three matches in three sets, managed only one ace and committed four double faults during the final. She remarked on her efforts, stating that it wasn't sufficient to overcome Swiatek's performance. Meanwhile, in other tournament news, Great Britain's Katie Boulter achieved her first career win at the Cincinnati Open, defeating Katie Volynets in the first round.
