Makhachev Acknowledges Limited Time in UFC Ahead of Title Defense

Islam Makhachev has stated that he feels he has limited time left in the UFC as he gears up for his first title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330. The 34-year-old fighter, considered one of the best in mixed martial arts history, will compete in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

Makhachev, who made his UFC debut in 2015, boasts an impressive record of 17 wins out of 18 fights in the promotion. A victory over Garry would not only secure his title but also break Anderson Silva's long-standing record of 16 consecutive wins in the UFC.

Having moved up in weight class after a successful fourth lightweight title defense, Makhachev expressed a desire to fight more frequently as he approaches the later stages of his career. He acknowledged the challenges of scheduling fights in the UFC, stating, "I understand I’m not 28 years old; I’m 34 right now. And I don’t have much time."

The matchup against Garry is significant for both fighters. Garry, who has won 10 of his 11 UFC bouts, could become the first Irish champion since Conor McGregor if he triumphs over Makhachev. A win for Garry would also elevate him above McGregor for the most wins in UFC history among Irish fighters.

While Makhachev has been largely dismissive of Garry's skills during the lead-up to the fight, Garry has expressed admiration for Makhachev's accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of this bout in proving his own capabilities in the octagon.
