Mets Offense Stifled in 9-0 Loss to Pirates as Stock Struggles

The New York Mets faced a tough defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates, falling 9-0 in the second game of their series. Robert Stock, who had a promising debut previously, struggled significantly, surrendering eight runs over just three-plus innings of work.

Stock's troubles began in the first inning when he allowed the Pirates to load the bases with one out. A groundout by Nick Gonzales brought in the first run, followed by a two-run double from Ronny Simon that put the Pirates ahead early. Although Stock managed to limit the damage to just one run in the third, he faltered again in the fourth, allowing another run and walking two batters to load the bases before a wild pitch gave the Pirates another score.

In total, Stock threw 80 pitches, with 52 strikes, and finished with a line of eight runs, nine hits, and five walks, while striking out four batters. In contrast, Pirates pitcher Bubba Chandler delivered a stellar performance, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and one walk, while striking out five.

The Mets' offense was virtually nonexistent, managing only three singles from Francisco Lindor, Luis Robert Jr., and Francisco Alvarez. With the game out of reach, interim manager Andy Green opted to rest key players Lindor and Bo Bichette, making several substitutions in the fourth inning.

Xzavion Curry took over for Stock and pitched three scoreless innings, while catcher Luis Torrens, who also pitched, allowed a solo home run but limited further damage in his two innings of relief.

The Mets and Pirates will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon, with Sean Manaea set to face Jared Jones on the mound.
