At 42 years old, Scherzer has faced challenges this season, making only his ninth start due to multiple injuries. Despite these setbacks, he has an impressive track record, including a remarkable 300-strikeout season in 2018 and eight seasons with over 200 strikeouts.
Walter Johnson, who Scherzer has now eclipsed, was a dominant pitcher in his era, debuting in 1907 at just 19 years old. Over his 21-year career, Johnson won 417 games and holds the record for the most career shutouts in MLB history with 110.
