Yankees' Triple-A Manager Discusses Volpe's Role and Roster Changes

Yankees Triple-A manager Shelley Duncan has indicated that Anthony Volpe is expected to see time at second base as part of a strategic plan for the team. Following the recent Trade Deadline, the Yankees sent Volpe, Jasson Domínguez, and Max Schuemann down to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, where they will join a strong roster that currently leads the International League's second-half standings.

The RailRiders, despite a recent loss that ended their eight-game winning streak, hold a 23-10 record in the second half of the season. Overall, their performance has been impressive, with a 60-47 record, making them one of only four teams in the league to surpass 60 wins. Their recent series against Iowa showcased their offensive prowess, as they batted .343 with 79 hits, including 11 home runs.

Duncan noted that while the addition of Volpe, Domínguez, and Schuemann will enhance the team's capabilities, there may be an adjustment period as they integrate into the lineup. The RailRiders currently rank fourth in the league for home runs and lead in several pitching categories, including earned run average and WHIP, thanks in part to standout performances from pitchers Brendan Beck and Elmer Rodríguez.

Beck, the Yankees' No. 19 prospect, has been particularly impressive, boasting a 9-2 record with a 2.69 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 110.1 innings. Rodríguez, ranked No. 3 in the Yankees' system, also contributes significantly with a 2.77 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 81.1 innings. Their success on the mound has been a key factor in the RailRiders' strong season, and the addition of new players is expected to bolster their chances in the league.
