Rockets Part Ways with Guard JD Davison

The Houston Rockets have officially waived guard JD Davison, marking the end of his brief tenure with the team. Davison, who was on a two-way contract last season, played in 28 games but averaged only 7 minutes per game, contributing 2.5 points and 1.3 assists.

In his most notable performance during the season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies, Davison showcased his potential by recording 9 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks in 26 minutes of action.

This offseason, Davison upgraded his contract to a standard NBA deal worth $2.5 million over two years, although only $82,000 of that amount was guaranteed, making the financial impact of his release minimal for the Rockets.

The addition of veteran guard Marcus Smart, along with the return of Fred VanVleet and the emergence of Reed Sheppard, created a logjam in the backcourt, leaving little room for Davison to secure playing time. Furthermore, the signing of Bogdan Bogdanovich further crowded the guard rotation.

Despite his release, Davison, who is just 23 years old, has shown flashes of potential and could find opportunities with another team looking to bolster its depth at the guard position.
