OG Anunoby Sees NBA Europe Elevating UK Basketball

OG Anunoby, a prominent player for the New York Knicks, has expressed optimism about the planned NBA Europe league, which he believes will elevate basketball in the United Kingdom. Set to launch in October 2027, the league aims to include 12 to 16 teams from across Europe, with London and Manchester likely to be among the host cities.

The NBA has received substantial bids for franchises, ranging from $500 million to $1 billion, and expects to announce the identities of the teams soon. Anunoby, who recently celebrated a championship win with the Knicks, noted the growing interest in basketball within the UK, particularly in cities like London and Manchester.

Laura Pinnell, the NBA's vice-president for Consumer Group and marketing across Europe and the Middle East, confirmed that plans for the league are progressing well. She highlighted the UK as a significant opportunity for the league, emphasizing the potential for fan engagement and youth participation in basketball.

As Anunoby enjoys his off-season in London, he remains focused on the Knicks' ambitions for the upcoming season, aiming to secure a second consecutive championship. He acknowledged the competitive nature of the league, stating that every team poses a threat.
