NBPA Unveils New Training Facility in Los Angeles to Support Players
40 days agoThe National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has officially opened the PLYRS UNTD performance center in Los Angeles, a state-of-the-art training facility designed to provide comprehensive support for NBA players. This facility marks a new chapter for the union as it seeks to enhance player training and engagement.
With the recent appointment of former Warriors executive David Kelly as executive director and veteran guard Fred VanVleet as president, the NBPA is energized and focused on the future, including the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations. Kelly noted the positive reception of the facility, with around 80 players utilizing it in its first week.
The PLYRS UNTD center aims to be a one-stop shop for players, featuring a fully equipped athletic training room, weight room, recovery room, multiple NBA-sized courts, and a kitchen offering healthy meals and recovery smoothies. The design of the facility was influenced by player feedback, with ongoing enhancements based on their suggestions.
Trey Murphy III, a member of the NBPA board, highlighted the facility's unique offerings, stating that it provides everything needed for a complete workout experience in one location. The facility is dedicated solely to NBA players and is accessible 24/7, fostering an environment of competition and camaraderie among athletes.
While the NBPA continues to support player training through this new facility, the leadership is also preparing for future CBA discussions, emphasizing the importance of being ready for negotiations that lie ahead. Murphy expressed the need for the union to be proactive and prepared as they approach this critical phase.
