Illinois Star David Mirkovic Undergoes Foot Surgery, Recovery Timeline Unclear

David Mirkovic, a standout player for the Illinois basketball team, recently underwent foot surgery after sustaining an injury during practice on July 31. The university announced the surgery on August 4, indicating that Mirkovic is expected to make a full recovery, although no specific timeline for his return has been provided.

Last season, Mirkovic averaged 13.3 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, showcasing his potential as a key contributor for the upcoming 2026-27 season. His role was anticipated to expand following the departure of leading scorer Keaton Wagler to the NBA.

Mirkovic played a crucial part in leading Illinois to the Final Four last season, including a standout performance where he scored a career-high 29 points in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Penn.
