Eogene Ewe Upsets Lee Zii Jia at Korea Masters

In a surprising turn of events at the Korea Masters, Malaysia's Eogene Ewe triumphed over former All England champion Lee Zii Jia in the opening round. Ewe, currently ranked No. 75 in the world, needed just 28 minutes to secure a straight-game victory with scores of 21-9, 21-19 at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium.

Eogene showcased impressive control throughout the match, quickly establishing dominance in the first game. Despite Lee's attempts to mount a comeback in the second game, Ewe maintained his composure, ultimately sealing the match with crucial points at the end.

This defeat marks a setback for Lee, who had recently shown signs of improvement, including a semifinal appearance at the Canada Open. Ewe's next challenge will be against Su Li Yang from Chinese Taipei, as he aims for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai continued their strong form from the Taipei Open, winning their first-round match against India's Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu. They will face a tougher challenge in the next round against the second-seeded pair of Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem.

In mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie and Clarissa San advanced by defeating fellow Malaysians Low Han Chen and Chan Wen Tse, setting up a match against Chinese Taipei's fourth seeds Wu Hsuan Yi and Yang Chu Yun for a place in the quarterfinals.
