Astros Acquire Daulton Varsho from Blue Jays for Spencer Arrighetti

In a significant move just before the trade deadline, the Houston Astros have acquired outfielder Daulton Varsho from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti. Varsho was informed of the trade while preparing for a game against the Astros, making for a swift transition to his new team.

Astros manager Joe Espada wasted no time integrating Varsho into the lineup, placing him in the cleanup spot for Monday night’s game against his former team. Varsho expressed his excitement about joining the Astros, highlighting the positive atmosphere in the clubhouse and the warm welcome he received from his new teammates.

Varsho, a Gold Glove winner, is expected to bolster the Astros' outfield as they lead the AL West following a recent three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers. Espada noted Varsho's unique skill set, emphasizing his defensive prowess in center field and his potential to enhance the team's offensive dynamics.

This season, Varsho has played in 99 games, posting a batting average of .243 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs. He previously hit 20 home runs in 71 games last year with the Blue Jays, who are currently struggling at the bottom of the AL East standings after a successful run to the American League pennant in 2025.

On the other hand, Spencer Arrighetti, currently on the injured list due to nerve irritation in his right foot, has a record of 7-5 with a 4.60 ERA this season. The 26-year-old right-hander has made 52 major league starts since his debut in 2024.
