Williams Sisters to Compete in Cincinnati Open Doubles

Serena and Venus Williams are set to make their return to the court as they have been awarded a wildcard entry for the women's doubles at the Cincinnati Open. This event, part of the WTA 1000 series, will take place from August 11 to 23 in Ohio.

The upcoming tournament will be significant for the sisters, as it will be their first doubles appearance together since they competed at the 2022 US Open. Their participation comes after a planned collaboration at Wimbledon was derailed when Serena sustained a knee injury during her singles match earlier this year.

This doubles event could pave the way for Serena's potential return to the US Open later this year. Her last Grand Slam appearance was four years ago at Flushing Meadows, where she exited in the third round. Currently, she is just one title shy of tying the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, a mark shared by Margaret Court and Novak Djokovic.

In addition to the doubles entry, Venus has also received a wildcard for the singles draw at the Cincinnati Open. Together, the Williams sisters have claimed 14 major titles and three Olympic gold medals in doubles, showcasing their remarkable legacy in the sport.
