Emma Raducanu Withdraws from US Open to Focus on Recovery
42 days agoEmma Raducanu has announced that she will miss the upcoming US Open as she prioritizes her recovery from a stress fracture in her right lower leg. The British tennis star made the decision after consulting with her medical team, following a challenging period of injuries and health issues over the past year.
Raducanu, who claimed the US Open title in 2021, had previously withdrawn from Wimbledon due to the same injury. She had only recently resumed training while wearing a protective boot, indicating that her return to competitive play is still uncertain.
The 23-year-old's recent struggles began with a foot injury that affected her pre-season training, followed by a post-viral illness that kept her off the court for two and a half months. Although she briefly returned to action during the clay-court season and reached the final at Queen's Club in June, she has not played since then, further complicating her comeback efforts.
As the US Open approaches, Raducanu's absence marks another setback in what has been a frustrating year for the player, who has faced persistent physical challenges since her remarkable victory in New York two years ago.
