In a historic achievement, Alexandra Eala has become the first Filipino player to win a WTA singles title, triumphing over top seed Jessica Pegula at the Washington Open. The final, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed to Monday due to adverse weather conditions in Washington, D.C.

The match began with Pegula, ranked third in the world, taking the first set 6-4. However, the match was interrupted when Eala was leading 2-1 in the second set, forcing a delay that canceled play for the rest of the day. When action resumed on Monday, Eala showcased her skills, winning the next two sets decisively with scores of 6-4 and 6-0.
