Nets Finalize Roster Moves Ahead of Upcoming Season

In recent developments, the Brooklyn Nets have solidified their roster by signing Moe Wagner from the Orlando Magic to a two-year, $19 million contract. This move puts an end to speculation regarding potential last-minute roster changes by the team's management, led by Sean Marks.

Following Wagner's addition, the Nets now have 15 guaranteed contracts. They have also brought in Keon Ellis, Julius Randle, and two first-round draft picks: Mikel Brown Jr. and Joshua Jefferson. In contrast, the team has parted ways with Nic Claxton, Ziaire Williams, Jalen Wilson, Ochai Agbaji, Malachi Smith, and the rights to second-round pick Isaiah Evans as part of the Randle/Claxton trade.

Additionally, Chaney Johnson will return as a two-way player, alongside Tyler Bilodeau, their 43rd overall pick. There remains one open two-way contract, with Grant Nelson, a 24-year-old 7-footer recovering from an injury, being a strong candidate for that spot.

The Nets are poised to have one of the youngest rosters in the league, featuring eight rookie contracts. They are unlikely to surpass their record for rookie minutes set last season, which totaled 6,716, with the Flatbush 5 contributing 5,974 of those minutes.

Financially, the Nets retain a $9.4 million Room Mid-Level Exception and approximately $4.9 million in cap space for the current season. Looking ahead, they are expected to have up to $50 million in cap space next season due to their investment in rookie contracts.

With 13 first-round draft picks, 10 of which are tradeable, and 19 second-round picks, the Nets lead the league in draft assets. As they navigate their roster and financial strategy, the team remains focused on long-term growth rather than immediate contention.
