Michigan Basketball Welcomes Dylan Murphy as New Assistant Coach

Michigan Basketball has announced the hiring of Dylan Murphy as an assistant coach, joining head coach Mike Boynton Jr. Murphy comes from the Orlando Magic's G League team, where he served as head coach, bringing a wealth of experience in both NBA and G League coaching.

Over the past five years, Murphy has been integral to the Orlando Magic organization. He initially worked as a basketball operations analyst from 2018 to 2020, providing analytical support to the coaching staff before transitioning to a full-time assistant coaching role from 2020 to 2023. This experience has equipped him with valuable insights from the NBA bench.

Murphy's coaching journey began in the G League, where he spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers' affiliate. During his tenure, the Mad Ants achieved remarkable success, posting a league-best record and winning the G League championship in 2014. Following this, he served as an NBA G League scout for the Atlanta Hawks, honing his talent evaluation skills.

His diverse background and expertise in analytics make him a strong addition to Boynton's coaching staff. Murphy's understanding of the data-driven aspects of basketball is particularly relevant in today's game, where analytics play a crucial role in player development and game strategy.
