Wu Yize Advances to Shanghai Masters Semifinals with Narrow Win Over Murphy

Wu Yize, the reigning world champion, edged past Shaun Murphy with a close 6-5 victory to reach the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters. Despite facing challenges, including a series of errors, Wu managed to secure the win in a dramatic third-round match.

The two players met for the first time since Wu's World Championship victory in May. Wu initially led 3-1 but found himself trailing 5-4. He rallied to force a deciding frame, showcasing his resilience with a fifth break of over 50 points during the match.

In the final frame, Murphy held a 62-29 lead but missed a crucial red, allowing Wu to capitalize and clear the table, sealing the match. Wu expressed his relief, acknowledging that he did not expect to get another chance after Murphy's miss.

Wu will face Judd Trump in the semifinals, who secured his spot by defeating John Higgins 6-0, including three consecutive century breaks in the last three frames. Wu reflected on his performance, stating that he struggled to find his rhythm and made mistakes he usually wouldn’t.

Defending champion Kyren Wilson also advanced, overcoming a 5-3 deficit against Mark Williams to win in a deciding frame, highlighted by breaks of 61, 54, and 113. Wilson will meet Zhao Xintong, who dominated Neil Robertson 6-0 in his match.
