Will Brian Thrives in Triple-A with RailRiders After Double-A Success

Will Brian, a left-handed reliever, has been making a significant impact with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders since his promotion from Double-A Somerset last month. In 10 appearances, he has achieved four holds, one save, and recorded a 3.65 ERA along with 16 strikeouts over 12.1 innings.

Reflecting on his experience, Brian expressed his excitement about playing for the Yankees, stating that being homegrown in Triple-A adds to the special feeling of his journey. He emphasized the learning opportunities available at this level, where he can interact with players who have experience in the majors, enhancing his own development.

Brian has noted the differences between Double-A and Triple-A, particularly regarding the level of competition and the type of baseball used. The Triple-A ball is manufactured to MLB standards, featuring lower seams, which affects grip and pitch movement. He acknowledged that mistakes are punished more severely at this level, requiring greater precision in his pitching.

In addition to adjusting to the ball, Brian has had to navigate the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system and its challenges. He relies on his catchers, J.C. Escarra and Abrahan Gutierrez, to make calls regarding challenges, focusing instead on delivering strikes and managing innings effectively.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Brian grew up as a Yankees fan and was thrilled when the team selected him in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft. After overcoming injuries that sidelined him for parts of the previous seasons, he is now eager to contribute to the RailRiders and continue his ascent in professional baseball.
